I think its ok to mention the brand name of the device you are using. That way you could get a more informed answer.

A key to getting good sound out of your set up is to use the highest quality mp3 you can with your setup, right?

If the 'directions that came with the device' don't specify what your highest streaming rate is (how much data it can send in a given time period), go ahead and experiment:

try encoding one song or track at several different (high) bitrates, including at least one Variable Bit Rate, and try-it-out.

See which quality of files works well for you, in other words.

I'd be interested in knowing what gear you use, and what works well with it, if you don't mind posting your results.

Well im using the linksys wma11b wireless media adapter. It's pretty cool so far. So far i've just converted some flac and shn files to wav then from there 320 bit mp3. Sounds good to me, i've come across another quesiton though, is it best to decode flac and shn to wav files then decode to mp3 or is it ok to go straight from flac/shn to mp3. The highest bitrate the device supports is 480 from what the linksys people tell me, but they are complete fools. Let me know what your thoughts are?

it doesn't make any difference whether you decode to wav first or transcode to mp3 directly.

(technically the only difference is that in one case an intermediary wav file will be written, while in the other case the decoded data goes straight into the mp3 encoder)

dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC), www.dbpoweramp.com, can convert between any formats with codec plugins, including SHN & FLAC, among many others. There's really no reason to create intermediate WAVs. You have complete control over the MP3 bitrate settings for variable or fixed bitrates.

After I tried some converter, I found Daniusoft WMA MP3 Converter could convert many DRM video and audio: WMA, M4A, M4B, AAC, WMV, M4P, M4V, ASF in a high quality with fast conversion speed.
